Sprinkler Repair Person

Definition

Under general supervision, installs, maintains and repairs the various sprinkler systems at
schools and other District sites; performs general gardening, grounds maintenance and does
related work as required.

Examples of Duties

Repairs, maintains and services sprinkler systems, sprinkler heads, and related piping;
installs new sprinkler and piping; installs new controls and valves; reads blueprints to
determine locations; installs and replaces pipes; taps mains; and threads pipe; performs such
gardening duties as spraying, planting and pruning trees; uses insecticides, pesticides, and
herbicides; cultivates and fertilizes; assists in landscaping; performs such grounds
maintenance duties as mowing and edging lawns; operates gangmower and such power
tools as drills and saws.

Employment Standards

A.

Knowledge of:

Sprinklers, piping, sprinkler valves, and sprinkler heads, sprinkler controls and
related equipment;

Tapping water mains and control valves;

Work drawings and diagrams related to sprinkler systems;

Gardening, including planting, cultivation and pruning;

Use of spray chemicals.
Ability to:

Install, thread and repair piping;

Read basic blueprints;

Read and interpret technical directions related to sprinklers, valves and controls;

Work independently without close supervision;

Perform spraying, gardening and groundskeeping duties

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent

Equivalent to completion of high school including in pipework and gardening

preferred. Experience involving the skilled repair and installation of sprinkler systems or
similar duties desired.

D.

Licenses/Certificates:

Possession of a valid California Class I License.
