Telecommunications Network Coordinator

II.

Definition

Under general supervision, is responsible for telecommunications equipment installation,
troubleshooting and hardware testing. Coordinates activities of equipment and line vendors
and maintains internal systems to assure that network components are operational. Analyzes
system requirements, and develops needed software parameters as directed. Maintains
records of the equipment failures and coordinates preventive maintenance and/or corrective
programs with vendor/internal service personnel. Advises and assists micro computer users
by solving problems using recommended Information Systems tools, and performs related
work consistent with the job description.

Examples of Duties

Installs, and performs preventative and on-call maintenance on, telecommunications
equipment including cathode ray tube terminals, micro processors, modems, line drivers,
teleprinters, multiplexors, and other teleprocessing hardware. Maintains detailed records on
data communication network, including utilization of lines and telephone company circuits,
error and retry statistics on multi-drop lines and individual stations, and other data to
facilitate on-going optimization of the network. Coordinates, and fulfills service requests for
terminal installation, relocation, repair, and maintenance with other computer center
personnel, vendors, and contractors where appropriate, and the user requesting the services.
Analyzes telecommunication needs and recommends cost-effective solutions to problems
involving the interface of communications devices with computer resources, configures the
telecommunications network software as needed to maintain a reliable and efficient system.
Analyzes mainframe system requirements, and recommends changes to systems
software/hardware configurations, and implements coldstart/warmstart parameters as
directed. Submits
recommendations for micro computer enhancements for end users according to Information
Systems recommended tools, such as type of computers and software.

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

AA degree with emphasis in electronics or related field or equivalent training and
demonstrated experience in data communications hardware and software maintenance in a
multi-user environment, plus additional experience in the telecommunications and
microcomputer field which meets or exceeds standard of knowledge, skills, and abilities
listed above.

D.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid California Driver's License.
