II.Definition
Under direction, to perform a wide variety of complex and responsible clerical work of more than average difficulty; and to do related work consistent with the job description.
III.Examples of Duties
Through the use of district computers, composes reports or correspondence independently from oral direction, rough draft or notes; maintains office records and files; operates computer programs for attendance, registration and purchase orders; answers inquiries from the public and district personnel in person or by phone, or refers to proper administrator or department; schedules appointments, arranges meetings, conferences; and may assign, supervise or coordinate work of other clerical staff; maintains and administers first-aid when necessary.
IV.Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this classification differ from Clerical Office Assistant I in the level of clerical responsibility and independent, interpretative judgment exercised in completing assignments; may also supervise the work of other clerical staff.
V.Employment Standards
A.Knowledge of: Modern office procedures, practices, and operation, including filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques; Letter and report Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary; Working knowledge of assigned office organization.
B.Ability to: Learn and interpret specific policies, rules and regulations with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations applicable to the department; Perform responsible and difficult clerical tasks with efficiency and accuracy; Analyze situations and adopt and effective course of action; Type at a speed of 55 WPM from a clear copy; Supervise the work of clerical staff; Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; Learn to operate a computer terminal, word processing and data base software; Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
C Education/Training/Experience: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
