I. Title Desegregation Office Translator/Interpreter - Language

 

II.Definition

 

Under the direction of the Multilingual Communication System Specialist, to provide verbal and written translation services to administrative and support staff as described in the United States Federal Court desegregation order; and to do related work consistent with the job description.

 

III.Examples of Duties

 

Prepares and implements activities related to translations and interpretations as assigned; distributes District and school level communication including agendas, minutes, reports, memoranda, letters, and other forms of communication as assigned; maintains records for documentation, audit files and for reference purposes; delivers interpretation services as assigned; assists in the coordination of the translation of materials; assists in the preparation of letters, memoranda, and reports as assigned; translates materials from English into the assigned language and from assigned language into English and assists in the preparation of directions of translators.

V.Employment Standards

 

A. Knowledge of: Correct English and assigned language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;Modern office methods and practices, letter, and report writing; District/school organizations, programs, and policies; Organization and collection of data.

B.Ability to: Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; Learn to use a computer terminal and office related software (i.e., word processor and/or filing programs); Takes notes in English and/or assigned language and transcribe them accurately; Maintain confidentiality of information; Type from clear copy (English or assigned language) at a rate of not less than 45 words per minute.

C.Education/Training/Experience: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience, and training which meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

 

D.Licenses/Certificates: Valid California Driver's License and the use of a dependable automobile.

 

VI.Specific Qualifications

Passage of appropriate District bilingual/bicultural test. Passage of District clerical test.
