I.Title Desegregation Support Programs Assistant
II.Definition
Under the general supervision of the principal, the Desegregation Support Programs Assistant assists students, teachers, administrators, and other staff members while supporting the establishment of school-wide Desegregation Support Programs which positively affect the academic achievement and social adjustment of students; and to do related work consistent with the job description.
III.Examples of Duties
Schedules students with academic assistance needs into the school's Academic Tutoring Program; assists in implementing other programs designed to assist students having academic and attendance behavior problems related to desegregation; works with staff and district personnel to integrate all students into school activities; facilitates necessary school conferences and home visits when appropriate; and assists other school staff in providing language support, interpretation, and translations as appropriate.
IV. Distinguishing Characteristics
A Desegregation Support Programs Assistant works under general supervision and within a framework of established procedures for the students The Desegregation Support Programs Assistant is expected to perform a variety of duties including assisting in carrying out the school's Desegregation Support Programs. The assistant spends approximately 60% of his/her time working directly with students facilitating improved student achievement.
V.Employment Standards
A.Knowledge of: School resources and programs; Techniques that enhance interpersonal communication, self-understanding, and development of positive self-esteem; Student behavior management techniques and strategies; Correct English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar; Record keeping and record management.
B.Ability to: Relate to persons of different ages, backgrounds and education; Learn and interpret specific school policies, rules and regulations with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations; Analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships. Learn to operate a computer terminal and use appropriate software Communicate satisfactorily in oral and written form; Understand and carry out oral and written instruction; Relate to students in a warm and caring manner.
C.Education/Training/Experience: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, two years of interpersonal and group relations experience or any combination of education and experience of training which meets or exceeds standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
D.Licenses/Certificates: A valid California Driver's License and the use of a dependable automobile.
