Title

District Property Monitor

II.

Definition

Under general supervision of the Coordinator, Energy & Safety; to monitor public school
buildings, grounds and property; to respond to security alarms, to operate radio
communications system and to perform additional duties, as required.

III.

Examples of Duties

Makes inspection rounds at different intervals to provide protection against vandalism,
burglary, arson, theft or any other dangers which might result in loss or damage to property;
prevents damage to school property and removal of equipment or material from school
premises by unauthorized persons; contacts law reinforcement agencies for assistance in the
apprehension of offenders; secures doors and windows and makes temporary repairs as
needed; reports repairs or suspicious circumstances which require assistance; assures
intrusion alarms are activated and walk-tests sites to ensure alarm systems are operating
properly; ensures fans and heaters are off in rooms; enforces building and campus
regulations as stated in building use permits and secures rooms after use; prevents
admittance to school premises of unauthorized persons; responds to intrusion and fire alarm
calls; prepares written reports, monitors energy management systems.

Employment Standards

A.

Knowledge of:

Rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to the protection of public
property, access to buildings and properties, safety and prevention of fire, theft or
vandalism;

Operation of 2-way radio communications systems;

Operation of current alarm systems;

Knowledge of common fire hazards and the operation of fire equipment
located in various buildings;
Knowledge of basic spelling and grammar necessary to accurately
complete reports.

B.

Ability to:

To recognize and evaluate signs of potential danger or loss to District
property, students, or personnel and react appropriately to reduce or eliminate the
risk;

To learn and operate District computerized systems efficiently;

To perform temporary maintenance repairs, examples include but are not limited
to boarding broken windows, shutting off electrical panel(s) and shutting off
water;

To learn rules and regulations relating to use of facilities and emergency
telephone numbers for local law enforcement and fire department
agencies;

To learn location of all fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers,
power control switches, fire alarm boxes and all other emergency
equipment and/or exits;

To follow oral and written instructions with a minimum of direction;

To apply first aid principles;

To work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and District staff.

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

All candidates must have completed high school or possess a general
equivalency certificate;

Working knowledge of California public school systems is preferred;

Experience as a security guard or in plant security;

Experience working with the public.

Working Hours

A forty (40) hour week requiring a variety of shifts including ''swing" or
"graveyard" shifts, including weekends, holidays, evening and night shifts.

Willingness to make outside patrols in a variety of weather conditions.

D.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid California Driver's License.
