II.Definition
Under general supervision, to assist the instructional staff in supervising the classroom and playground activities of kindergarten, preschool, and elementary school students; and to do related work as required.
III.Examples of Duties
Sets up work area, assists teachers, and prepares materials for reading, mathematics, social studies, crafts, and other instructions: may assist teachers in providing individual assistance to students; may review and correct workbooks and help students make corrections; assists teachers in directing games and other physical education activities; prepares materials for classroom use, such as mixing paints, cutting paper, tracing patterns, and preparing flannelgraphs, bulletin boards, charts, and other visual aids; reads stories to students; discusses problem students with the teacher; sets up and operates audio/visual equipment; cleans easels, brushes, and blackboards; assists in supervising students on field trips; assists teacher by performing clerical tasks such as typing, duplicating, filing and taking attendance.

A.Knowledge of: English usage, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling; Office supplies and equipment;Safety and health rules
B.Ability to: Perform a variety of moderately difficult clerical work; Follow oral and written directions;Operate a typewriter and other common office machines; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, and co-workers; Speak, read and/or write a second language may be required.
C.Education/Training/Experience: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.Previous experience in the care and supervision of young children in a learning situation desirable.
