I.Title Instructional Associate - Infant Caregiver
II.Definition
Under supervision, to assist the Young Mothers/Families Program instructional staff in supervising, organizing, and leading activities of infants, toddlers, and preschool children enrolled in the School-Age Parenting and Infant Development Program, and to do related work as required.
III.Examples of Duties
Help with health-check screening as children arrive; provide infants/toddlers with individualized feeding, diapering, holding, and stimulation; assist in planning and supervising activities, and providing supervision individually and in small groups; set up play area for preschool children, with crafts and toys; lead play activities and supervises children at play; participate and assist on outings; read stories, sing songs, play records; supervise rest and nap periods; maintain play and rest areas in a clean and safe manner; administer minor first aid to ill or injured children; clean up children, clothes, and facility as necessary; maintain records of children receiving care; may work with some non-English speaking young parents, direct and assist children in eating, resting, and toileting; may assist in preparing food and serving snacks and lunches; help children develop habit of caring and sharing with others, and picking up and putting away toys and books; and maintain discipline; is responsible for the safety of the children; maintain a cooperative relationship with everyone involved in the program (young parents, staff, community); observe child's behavior so as to assist in observations and reports, attend preservice and inservice training programs, seminars, and meetings as assigned; notify director of any concerns or problems which develop; help in general clean-up of center premises and assigned area, as well as other tasks as assigned or deemed necessary.

A.Knowledge of: Safety and first aid procedures; Child development and health; English usage, vocabulary, grammar.
B.Ability to: Follow oral and written directions; Relate to infants, toddlers, and preschool children in a warm, caring manner; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with young parents, coworkers, and school; Successfully complete, within the probationary period, the required childcare, CPR, and first aid training provided and funded by the Young Mothers/Families Program.
C.Education/Training/Experience: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent. Previous experience or training in the care and supervision of young children Applicant is encouraged but not required, to pursue college training in the area of infant/toddler education, development, and health.
