I.Title Instructional Associate - Special Education III

 

II.Definition

Under general supervision and training of the Registered Occupational Therapist and teacher, assists students in special learning classes

 

III.Example of Duties

Exhibits a positive attitude toward small signs of student growth; Tolerate abnormal behavior patterns in children; Implement behavior intervention plan; Compile student data and maintain records;Provides training and instruction in needed IEP goal area; Teaches from compiled instructional materials prepared by the teacher; Participate in weekly meetings; ( with who? ) Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, students and staff; Adjust to flexible working hours; (explanation ) Monitor student progress; Model appropriate behavior modification techniques.

 

IV.Distinguishing Characteristics

Employees should have personal warmth, enjoy working with children, be reliable and adaptable , and have the ability to empathize. Employees should be in good health relatively free of personal problems that might interfere with regular attendance.( May have to lift? potty? ) Instructional Aide - Special Ed. III

 

 

 

V.Employment Standards

 

A.Knowledge of: Safety and First Aid procedures (desirable); Child development and health;English usage, vocabulary, and grammar.

B.Ability to:Follow oral and written directions;Relate to children in a warm and caring manner;Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships as a team member with administrators, professional staff, teachers, and other supervisory personnel.

C.Education/Training/Experience Completion of 12th grade or equivalent; Previous experience or training in the care and supervision of young children; Pass the SJUSD Instructional Associate test.

D.Licenses/Certificates: Valid California Driver's License and a reliable automobile.CPR and First Aid Certificate.Instructional Associate - Special Ed. III

 

 

 

 

VI. Specific Qualifications

 

Candidates for this primary intervention program are selected on the basis of interpersonal and experiential qualities. A required training period prepares the Candidates for their duties within the school. Training includes communication skills, nondirective play techniques, child abuse awareness and reporting requirement, special needs and child development training, etc.
