II. Definition
Under the direction of certificated personnel, will be responsible for providing support services to the students and staff of the school, including preparation and circulation of media materials and a wide variety of general Library/Media Center duties; and to do related work consistent with the job description.
III. Examples of Duties
Maintains and enters data through the use of computer terminals; processes library books and circulates media materials; maintains card catalog and shelf lists; maintains and orders library books, equipment and supplies; keeps necessary records; performs simple repairs on media materials and equipment; takes inventories; files correspondence; maintains an attractive environment; assists staff and students in locating curriculum materials; answers routine questions concerning Library/Media Center facilities; operates and instructs in the use of A-V equipment commonly found in school Library/Media Centers; maintains an attractive environment; works with children in the absence of the resource teacher and assists with the supervision of student library aides.

A. Knowledge of:
- Simple clerical procedures for receipt, storage and circulation of a variety of instructional materials;
- Learn production and simple graphic techniques;
- Basic library terminology and standard library practices;
- Basic computer terminal skills and use of a variety of software.
B. Ability to:
- Work on own initiative without close supervision;
- Relate to students in a warm and caring manner;
- Learn to catalog and process media materials using standard Library procedures;
- Operate A-V equipment commonly used in school Library/Media Centers;
- Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Type at a speed of 35 WPM from a clear copy;
- Do a variety of moderately difficult clerical work in the receipt, processing and circulation of library and audio-visual materials and equipment.
C. Education/Training/Experience:
Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
