Occupational Therapist II

II.

Definition

Under the direction of the Director, Student Services, coordinates, plans,
and implements the occupational therapy program with the Occupational
Therapist I and assess the services of the Occupational Therapist I based upon the recommendation
of the individualized education program team.

III.

Example of Duties

Supports the Occupational Therapist I and may assist paraprofessionals
to work directly with students. Plans, coordinates, and monitors occupational therapy services and
equipment. Works with the Occupational Therapist I to design and coordinate student and staff
schedules for participation in the occupational therapy program.Provides professional leadership by
monitoring, problem-solving and overseeing the Occupational Therapist I. Provides, as well as
oversees, staff development opportunities. Asses student needs through the IE process, attends all
IEP’s and writes related IEP goals. Consults with the Occupational Therapist I and monitors
student progress. Serves as a liaison to public and private agencies; represents the District at local,
State, and regional meetings as requested. Observes and consults with all staff involved with the
instructional services of a special needs student.

A.

Knowledge of:

Basic first aid and CPR

Educational and developmental needs of children;

Principles, methods, and objectives of occupational therapy;

Record keeping and record management;

Principles of consultation, training, and supervision;

Laws and policies governing Special Education, particularly as

they apply to the delivery ofoccupational therapy services.

B.

Ability to:

Work independently while following IEP’s;

Stay calm and perform in emergency health situations;

Assess the developmental and educational needs of children;

Identify and analyze areas of developmental sensory-motor
dysfunction;

Develop, implement and oversee treatment plans, goals, and
objectives;

Communicate clearly through all mediums;

Maintain confidentiality of student records and information;

Work with the public and outside agencies in a courteous and tactful
manner;

Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships;

Ability to prepare material and present in a group setting;

Collaborate with staff, families, Occupational Therapists I,
as well as with other agencies;

C.

Education/Training/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school, as well as
experience and/or training which meets or exceeds the skills and
abilities described above. At least three years experience as an
Occupational Therapist, preferably working with children

D.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid California Driver’s License and the use of a reliable
automobile.

Current Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
certificates.

Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy
Certification Board (AOTCB)
