I.Title Office Technician I

(Food Services, Operations/Grounds, Maintenance, Transportation)

 

II. Definition

 

Under general supervision to perform varied, moderately difficult clerical work; assist in maintaining the computerized work-order data file and do related work consistent with the job description.

 

III. Examples of Duties

 

Posts to computerized work-order data files; assists in the production of individual work-order reports for analysis and used by other District personnel; assists in the development of Legal Ad bids, L-Bids, and telephone bids; assists in the keeping of daily attendance records of department employees and their substitutes; types a wide variety of material; verifies calculations; recieves requisitions for supplies; checks specifications and descriptions in vendor catalogs; contacts vendors to verify catalog prices or request quotations; prepares purchase orders; posts financial data; keeps time and material records; receives and sends messages on a mobile base station radio and may supervise other clerical personnel; works with public tactfully and courteously; and performs duties re!ative to the specific department.

V. Employment Standards

 

A. Knowledge of:

 

  • Operation of computer terminal;
  • Work-order system;
  • Operation of a mobile base station radio;
  • Modern office methods and applications;
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

 

B. Ability to:

  • Learn to operate a computer terminal using necessary software;
  • Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships;
  • Type.from clear copy at a rate of 50 words per minute;
  • Sort and verify statistical and other data;
  • Make accurate arithmetical computations;
  • Learn to operate a mobile radio.

 

C. Education/Training/Experience:

  • Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience and training which meets or exceeds standards of knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, plus two years of experience in general typing and clerical work.

 

D. Licenses/Certificates:

  •  A valid California Driver's License.

 

VI. Specific Qualifications

Passage of District Clerical Test and 50 WPM typing test.
