Swimming Pool Technician I/Custodian

II.

Definition

Under supervision of Swimming Pool Technician II, cleans and maintains swimming pools,
pool equipment, and chlorine generators; drives District vehicle; performs routine cleaning
in a plant or installation; and does related work consistent with the job description.

Examples of Duties

May assist in keeping daily and monthly pool readings (records) of all pools on route;
drives to sites; cleans and maintains swimming pool by vacuuming, skimming, cleaning
scum gutters and baskets, hand cleaning tile, proper pool chemistry; operates and maintains
filters, chlorinators, and pool equipment including pool heating equipment; makes check of
pH, chlorine, total chlorine, alkalinity, and cyanuric levels of pool water; adjusts chlorinators
and adds chemicals as required; washes down and cleans all areas adjacent to pool, boiler
room, equipment room, drinking fountains around deck, and pool equipment. When weather

Employment Standards

A.

Knowledge of:

Methods, tools, and practices of pool maintenance;

Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials
and equipment;

The tools and basic practices of routine building maintenance work.

B.

Ability to:

Swim ten yards, tread water for five minutes;

Pass Swimming Pool Technicians test;

Physically perform pool maintenance, including working in water at times;
Make minor repairs to pool equipment;

Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, safety, and efficiency;

Perform heavy physical labor.

C.

Ability to Obtain:

CPR (within six months);

First Aid (Red Cross within six months);

CPO (Certified Pool Operators Certificate within six months).

D.

Education/Training/Experience:

Completion of 10th grade or equivalent and/or combination of education,
experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of
knowledge, skills and abilities listed above and passage of District test.

E.

Licenses/Certificates:

Must have a valid California Driver License.
