Continuation
high schools are designed to meet the needs of students
who are at risk of not completing high school. Broadway
High School's mission is to be an educational alternative
that provides a safe, challenging and supportive learning
environment for students with diverse needs. We teach
academic and life skills and motivate students to envision
and create their own futures. Student's academic needs
are better met in a small setting with a great number
of support services.
The student
body is composed of students from throughout the district
who are enrolled in the school on a continuous basis. We
are dedicated to providing a program for students that
challenges
them to improve their academic
habits, attain
a high school diploma and plan for continuing their
education at a post-secondary level. We believe that
setting a
higher
standard for attendance, performance and achievement
will result in students who are better prepared to become
responsibile
members of our community.
The school is very proud to have received a six-year accreditation
from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
The accreditation was received after an intensive self-study
and site visit by representatives from the California Department
of Education during the 2000-2001 academic year.
Broadway
is also very proud of the fact that its 2005-2006 Academic
Performance Index (API) increased 176 points from 404 in
2004-2005 to 580 in 2005-2006. The District recognized this
dramatic increase in API by holdng a
"Day
of Recognition Luncheon" in Broadway's honor.
Broadway High School is also proud of being a California
Model Continuation School. This honor was bestowed
on Broadway in the Spring of 2002.
.The "Young
Families Program" is located on
the campus and provides pregnancy and parenting education
as well as daycare for infants and toddlers. Many community-based
organizations provide services, including individual and
group counseling.
