The Broadway Young Mother/Young Families Program is funded through the California State Department of Education, Child Development Department.

History:

The San Jose Unified School District's YM/YF Program is housed at Broadway High School, a continuation high school.

The YM/YF Program was first established in the basement of the YWCA in downtown San Jose in 1968.
In 1978 the YM/YF Program was relocated at Woodrow Wilson Junior High.
The YM/YF Program next moved to the San Jose Unified School District Office while the program's students attended classes at Lincoln High School.

The YM/YF Program finally found a home at Broadway High School when Broadway first opened in 1982.

Prepare for vocational training
Prepare to succeed at work
Be a positive role model
Develop positive parenting
Provide a safe and healthy environment for your child
Encourage healthy development of your child

The YM/YF Program is open to female and male expectant parents and current parents. The age of eligibility is 5 weeks to kindergarten.

Adult Education students and students attending CCOC (Central County Occupational Center) are also eligible to attend as are students from Campbell Union School District. Please Note: All students must be CAL-Safe requirements in order to participate.

Instruction in nutrition, parent theory, parenting skills, along with a program nurse's participation are part of the program.

The YM/YF Program also offers an Independent Studies option for parents to gain the necessary credits to graduate.
