The
Gene & Mickey Long Library is the official name of the Library Media
Center (LMC) at Willow Glen High School. Gene and Mickey Long were both
former principals here. Upon their death, a portion of their estate was
bequeathed to the WGHS LMC. Their generosity has allowed the LMC to purchase
equipment and materials above and beyond the ever-diminishing funding
received from Sacramento. In addition to some new books requested by teachers
and a mobile computer lab, we have been able to equip the LMC computer
labs with LCD projectors and screens.
The
LMC is an attractive facility that is used heavily by the school and the
community. The main central area is used for student research and is equipped
with a projection screen for large group presentations. Students can locate
books by accessing our electronic database from ten computer browsers.
There are two very popular computer labs within the LMC which can be reserved
by any teacher to bring in their classes. The library is staffed by a
Library Media Assistant, M-F, from 8:00- 2:00.
An after-school program for all Willow Glen students called the "YMCA
Homework Center" is based in the LMC. It provides a place for our
students to come to for study, homework assistance or computer access,
with supervision provided by YMCA staff. It is open M-Th, from 2:00-6:00
PM.
