Castillero Education FoundationThanks to all in the Castillero community for your generous support this year! Most of you are probably aware that the mission of the Castillero Foundation is to support academic programs, events and technology at Castillero. We’ll be sending periodic updates this year through the email Weekly Blast to share what’s happening, as well as upcoming important events. Already this year, eleven digital cameras have been purchased for the new digital photography class taught by Ms. Linda Danialy. Check out this gallery of some of the student’s work at this link! - http://www.sjusd.k12.ca.us/sites/mid/Castillero/teachers/danialy/Welcome.html Another area of focus this year is supporting staff development. One of the first opportunities that arose was the California Science Teacher’s Association Conference in early November. This year’s conference was held in our own backyard at the McEnery Convention Center in downtown San Jose. The close proximity meant no travel costs, so the Foundation was pleased to sponsor the attendance of the entire Science staff and an additional resource teacher at this important professional development opportunity. At the Wed., Nov. 12 meeting of the Parent Support Groups (PTA, Foundation, Band Boosters and SELAC), Mr. Don Angelo of the Science Dept. made a presentation to parents sharing some of what was learned at the conference. The Science staff extended their thanks to all the parents who made their attendance possible! Please consider attending a future meeting – they’re held the 2nd Wed. of every month at 7 p.m. in the Castillero Media Center – and keep an eye out for updates on upcoming news and events! Don’t hesitate to contact ‘08/’09 Foundation President, Julie Hartman, at jchartman26@comcast.net if you have any questions or would like more information about how you can help. Greetings Parents! If this is your first visit here, welcome to Castillero and to the official site of the Castillero Education Foundation – otherwise, welcome back! One of the common questions is why a public school needs to have a non-profit foundation. Uncertainties with state and local funding of schools and educational programs have forced administrators, educators, and school communities to seek creative solutions to the constant budget issues. One of the solutions has been for concerned members of the school community to form a partnership – with each other and with our school – to ensure that the strong, vibrant learning environment and academic excellence established at Castillero can continue to grow. The Castillero Education Foundation was formed with one purpose in mind – to promote and enhance strong academic programs for our children. In addition to campus technology and beautification initiatives, you may be familiar with some of the many academic programs and community-building activities sponsored by the Foundation; · The Academic Expedition · Classroom and instructional technology upgrades · Math Olympics · Lego Robotics · The Annual Father-Daughter Dance · Renaissance Faire The support of parents like you is a key to maintaining the excellence of our school. Please take a few moments to read through the following pages and consider how you might be able to support the Foundation. Whether through direct donation in a Five-Minute Fundraiser, or volunteering to lend your talents to a Foundation-sponsored activity – we thank you for your contribution to building a strong school community that nurtures and encourages the best in all our children.
