Planting Positive Seeds
Planting Positive Seeds began in the 2007-08 school year in support of Project Cornerstone programs in SJUSD schools. These programs are funded by federal Safe and Drug Free Schools & Communities monies.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS: ASSET BUILDING PROGRAMS
In 2007-08, Planting Positive Seeds purchased books for SJUSD Elementary schools participating in one of three Project Cornerstone asset-building programs:
* Asset Building Champions (ABC), offered in English
* Los Dichos de la Casa, offered in a Spanish/English bilingual format
* Cultural Heritage Program, offered in Chinese and Vietnamese
All three programs support Language Arts, Writing, Reading/Speaking and Visual Arts Standards. Project Cornerstone trains and coaches adult volunteers to read children’s literature books and lead classroom activities related to bullying prevention and promoting positive peer interactions.Participating Elementary Schools:
Almaden, Anne Darling, Bachrodt, Booksin, Canoas, Empire Gardens, Galarza, Gardner, Grant, Graystone, Hacienda, Hammer, Horace Mann, Los Alamitos, Lowell, Schallenberger, Simonds, Terrell, Trace, Williams, Willow Glen Elementary.
MIDDLE SCHOOLS: CORNERSTONE BOOK CLUBS
Planting Positive Seeds has helped support Cornerstone Book Clubs in SJUSD middle schools. These book clubs are led by parent volunteers and are teacher supported. Most books clubs meet twice a month, generally during lunch time. If you are a parent interested in supporting a Cornerstone Book Club at an SJUSD middle school, please contact Linda Silvius at Project Cornerstone at 351-6457. Planting Positive Seeds is happy to support you with 20 copies of each book in the series.
