Decembers Athlete of the Month

December AOTM

Congratulations to our December Athletes of the Month!!!

Sarah Krall (Wrestling) took 1st place in both the Lynbrook Ladies Invitational and the Cupertino Dusty Classic during the month of December. Coach Adam Price Benitez added, "She is very inspirational to the team by her work ethic and attitude of lets not talk about let’s get it done. She assists the newer wrestlers on the mat with there basics and our Ram offense system. Her fellow wrestlers love to see her wrestle because of her example of never giving up to the last whistle. She somehow pulls out what she need by giving a committed effort and, just a little bit more."

Noah Blom (Boys Soccer) led the way for the Rams in December, scoring 9 goals while helping guide the team to an early 5-1 record. Coach John Llamas praised, "Noah's leadership kept the team together during the preseason and during the winter break. Noah has never missed a single day of practice and his work ethic is just amazing. Noah leads by example and well respected by his peers."

Sierra Soltis (Girls Soccer) perhaps capped the month off with the goal of the year. The defensive specialist showed off some amazing athleticism with a bicycle kick goal from 18 yards out. This one is sure to be talked about all season long! Coach Fabian Garza noted, "She has anchored our defense and provided immense leadership for our team."

FS Boys Basketball Finish On Top at the Ram Rumble

fs Ram rumble

Our Frosh-Soph Boys Basketball team did not want to be outdone by their Varsity counterparts. In the second annual Ram Rumble, the Rams showed that they will be a team to be reckoned with once league play begins. The Rams opened the tournament with a win over Mt Pleasant. They then took down a strong Soquel team by 11 points. They capped the tournament off with a 10-point win over Piedmont Hills in the Championship, avenging an earlier season defeat on the floor of the Pirates.

Sarah Krall Pins the Championship in Overfelt Inviatiaonal

Sarah krall
Congratulations to Sarah Krall for capturing the championship at the Overfelt Invitational. Sarah was seeded 4th in the tournament, but showed the seeding committee had made a mistake. She pinned the one seed from Hollister in the Semifinal match up and then cruised to the Championship win. Hard work paying off for the Rams. Teammate Alex Flores took 3rd place in his weight division.

October Athletes of the Month

October ATOM Congratulations to Waking Bailey and Grant Chiponis for receiving October Athlete of the Month honors. Waking Bailey was a regular highlight reel for the Rams his season. Accumulating over 1000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns on the season, Bailey was a consistent home run threat. Bailey flashed some of that brilliance in the final CCS game for the Rams as he scampered for an 82 yard touchdown run in the third quarter versus Leland High School. His hard work and team first attitude has helped guide the football team this season. Grant Chiponis made a big splash for the Rams this season holding down the Hole Set position. Not sure what occurs under the water, but above the water Chiponis could be seen consistently shredding the net. The 6'4 beast netted 105 goals on the season while adding in 19 assists and 25 steals. The mild mannered captain for our Boys Team was a beacon for guidance all season long.

Cultural Experience

Argentina Volleyball Our Girls Volleyball team enjoyed a unique experience while opening their doors to a group of young ladies from Argentina. The girls joined each other in an open gym format for volleyball and then shared their experiences and stories about school and sport.

Philosophy

We expect our student/athletes to strive to succeed in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. Our athletes are motivated to push themselves in their studies and provide an example for our student body of effective time management, sportsmanship and school spirit. Our coaching staff is highly skilled and our coaches are expected to provide our student/athletes with the training, tools and practice they need to succeed on and off the field.

While our athletes and coaches do a wonderful job, they aren’t able to achieve success without the support of our community. Willow Glen Athletics is grateful for the financial support from businesses, parents, alumni and neighbors; all provide valuable donations that allow our programs to function at a high level.

All parents of Willow Glen Athletes are welcome and encouraged to actively participate in the Willow Glen Athletic Boosters either through financial support or by volunteering their time. The WGAB is a vital source of monetary support for our athletic teams and the generous spirit of our parents makes this support possible.

As always, I am looking forward to another great year of Willow Glen Athletics. GO RAMS!
