We currently have 28 students on our ‘high need” list of Willow Glen Cares students. They range through students who are homeless but maybe staying with a friend, living in a hotel, shelter or transitional housing or living with their family renting a a room or apartment at such a high price that they cannot afford much beyond the rent. There are severe food shortages in many of these homes and trouble paying utility bills and transportation to school. (A VTA bus pass costs $45 per month per child which is why some of our students walk two miles to school every morning)
The students on this list have been invited to “reserve” a Thanksgiving gift basket for pick up next week. Thanks to the efforts of the National Honors Society under Mr. Mok, we will have 15 gift baskets arriving at school on Monday. “Young Life” are providing us another 5 so we hope we will be able to provide a gift basket to all the families who need and request one. We are also going to give each of these students a pair of cosy socks (that was a request made by one of the kids).
Winter Holidays – “Adopt a Student / Family” Program 2015
Each year for 3 years we have had an “Adopt a Student or Family” program. I invite you all to participate in this initiative. If your family, your office, your club, your classes or your organization would like to “adopt” one of our own students or families, which means providing them with some gifts and supplies for the winter holidays, please let me know. I will send out the details of how this works next week. We also welcome all donations to add to the gifts or in the event of a new student or family in need coming to our attention at the last minute. Donations can include new blankets, pillows, hygiene supplies, cookies and seasonal gifts, socks, sweatshirts etc. and gift cards.
Thank you and look forward to hearing from some of you!:

The mission of the Willow Glen High School Parent Club is to support Willow Glen High School and to promote the welfare of its students, faculty, and staff. It was formed in order to provide a structured organization whereby school personnel, parents, and interested members of the community may come together for the purpose of preservation and enhancement of our students’ educational environment. Specifically our goals are to improve school facilities and programs; to provide better communication between parents, students, teachers, school administration, and the school district; and to support both academic and social activities. The Parent Club will support the charitable efforts of the school by funding programs, materials, and resources in order to support our teachers and enhance the educational experience of the students.
I would like to welcome everyone to our meetings. Please join us anytime. We are WGHS’s PTA organization and this group is a wonderful way to get involved with the school and stay informed regarding events and activities. We would love to see you at a meeting!
We recruit volunteers: by joining the Parent Club and Lauren’s email list, you will be notified of volunteer opportunities.
We raise funds: our main fundraising activity is eScrip. Please sign up/renew at: http://www.escrip.com and choose Willow Glen High School. Please remember that only cash, check, or debit card purchases at Safeway will contribute to our escrip account.
We fund teacher requests: most of our budget is earmarked to buy materials that directly enhance our students’ education.
We organize and hold numerous activities and events: from the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances to our Staff Appreciation Breakfast and Freshman Welcome, Parent Club is there creating a special high school experience that is unique to WGHS.
Please join the Parent Club. You may drop off a check for $25 in the front office at any time. And, attend a meeting whenever you can. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have. Hope to hear from you soon!

Who We Are
The Willow Glen Middle School and High School Foundation was formed in July, 2000, to ensure high quality academic and elective programs in the face of technological, social, and economic challenges. The private, non-profit foundation was founded through the cooperative efforts of local parents, faculty, alumni, and public officials and focuses solely on the advancement of academic and cultural programs.
The Foundation is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization committed to making our neighborhood schools, Willow Glen Middle & High, the best they can be. (Non-profit tax I.D. #46-2106211)
We are parents, community members and educators who care passionately about public school education. We raise money through membership and community events and spend it on academic and cultural initiatives.
In addition, the Foundation is the face for our neighborhood schools, championing their strengths and benefits.

The eScrip program is a fundraising program that allows participating merchants (Safeway, Food 4 Less, Lunardis, Big O Tires and many, many more) to contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to the school or organization of your choice…Willow Glen High School!!
In 2010, the eScrip program earned over $28,000 for WGHS!
Neighbors, family, and friends can use eScrip to support WGHS!!
The eScrip fundraiser costs you nothing and requires little of your time or energy! Your normal purchases of groceries, clothes, shoes, etc. can raise money for the school. Enter a brief bit of information and your Safeway card number (call 1-877-723-3929 to get your Safeway Club Card Number). Then Willow Glen High School can earn money all year long from your shopping dollars. The money raised goes directly to Willow Glen HS! Here’s how:
If you are already a member of eScrip, you may add or change schools by visiting http://www.escrip.com. You may have your contributions split between different schools.
WGHS can earn a percentage of your purchase at web sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Petco, Apple Store, Marriot, Macy’s and many more. Go to eScrip.com, then select At the Online Mall in the upper right corner to be directed to the web site of your choice.
That’s it! No fees, no door to door, no collecting receipts. Just support the participating merchants. Check out the on-line mall for more participating merchants. For a complete list visit http://www.escrip.com.
