Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser

Scheduled for September 28, 2018!

New WAT logo

Our annual tradition that unites and ignites the school at the start of the school year continues in 2018. The Walk-a-Thon is a major fundraiser that benefits ALL students at WGMS!  Our goal this year is to raise $70,000, which will allow the school to continue to fund technology, field study trips, classroom and science lab supplies and much more. As students collect donations from family and friends, they can earn prizes that include a Walk-a-Thon t-shirt that can be worn as part of their uniform on Fridays, a portable device charger and lunch with Mr. Slayton! On the day of the Walk-a-Thon, the entire school walks together, enjoying live DJ music, fun games, and raffle prizes!

Important Dates

Week of August 27
Students receive their “Pledge Envelope and Permission Form” (PEPF) and begin soliciting sponsors.

On or Before Monday, September 17
Students submit their signed PEPF and money to the Front Office. The information on the PEPF should be filled out completely. Any student who submits pledge money after Monday, September 17 will be able to participate, but MAY NOT be eligible for prizes. A $1.00 minimum donation is required to participate in the Walkathon.

Friday, September 28
Walkathon! Students will jog/walk around a set course with lively background music.

Volunteers Are Needed

This event would not be possible without the help of volunteers. Help will be needed for working booths, event set up and event tear down.  Please click HERE if you can help.

Pledges:  Donate ONLINE!

Complete the PEPF, including parent signature. Ask family members, friends, and neighbors to sponsor you. Ask sponsors for a flat amount donation for participation. A flat donation allows pledge money to be collected before the day of Walkathon. Students should not pledge each other without their parent’s permission.  Two ways ways to donate this year:

• New: PAY ONLINE!  So much easier to support our school!  Go to and click on DONATE.
• Though we are trying to decrease the amount of cash handling, cash or check are still accepted.  Checks should be made payable to WGMS PTA. All donations are tax deductible (Tax ID # 94-6172527).

Matching Gift Programs

Much of our donor income can easily be doubled through a company’s Corporate Match program. This program applies to all employees at participating companies and often includes pledges.  Check with your employer to see if it will match donations that you and your co-workers make to the Walkathon. Copy the pledge envelope, fill out your company’s form, and submit it!  If you have a business of your own and would like to donate, please contact us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Sponsor a Student

If you would like to sponsor a student, please complete that line on the PEPF. You may choose to sponsor a particular student, or ask the school to select a recipient.

What to Wear

The day of Walkathon is a RAM Spirit Day. Students who are participating in the event may wear red and gold accessories with their uniform. If the student has earned a Walkathon shirt, he/she should wear it on the day of the event.

Huge thank you to our sponsors that make this event possible!

Willow Glen Foundation

Who We Are

The Willow Glen Middle School and High School Foundation was formed in July, 2000, to ensure high quality academic and elective programs in the face of technological, social, and economic challenges. The private, non-profit foundation was founded through the cooperative efforts of local parents, faculty, alumni, and public officials and focuses solely on the advancement of academic and cultural programs.

The Foundation is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization committed to making our neighborhood schools, Willow Glen Middle & High, the best they can be. (Non-profit tax I.D. #46-2106211)

We are parents, community members and educators who care passionately about public school education. We raise money through membership and community events and spend it on academic and cultural initiatives.

School Site Council (SSC)

The School Site Council (SSC) is a decision-making group composed of parents, community representatives, and school staff that share the responsibility for the planning, implementation and evaluation for the School Improvement Program (SIP).

A School Site Council is required of all schools receiving school improvement funds designed to provide increased parent involvement, understanding and improvement of the school’s educational program.

The responsibilities of the School Site Council are to advise and participate in:

* Reviewing with the principal, staff, and students the implementation of the SIP program and it’s effectiveness.
