Transgender Policy
San José Unified prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, gender identity and gender expression. Gender is defined as a person’s actual sex or perceived sex and includes a person’s perceived identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that identity, appearance, or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with a person’s sex at birth. Gender expression is defined as a person’s gender-related appearance and behavior, whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth.
Any student who feels that he/she is being harassed should immediately contact either their principal or the nondiscrimination coordinator. A student may file a complaint in accordance with district complaint procedures.
