Elementary Instructional Materials

The District conducts a thorough process to select curricular materials that align with state content standards and support academic success. Parents and guardians can review SJUSD curricular materials through our website, course syllabi for high schools, and by consulting their child’s elementary teacher or administrator. If you have any concerns about any SJUSD curricular materials, including issues related to personal religious beliefs, please contact a school administrator so they can address your concerns.

Frameworks and Standards

San José Unified uses a variety of Board adopted resources that are aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The curriculum is consistent across all of our schools and students receive instruction in language arts, mathematics, physical education, science, and social studies. For questions about the curriculum, please contact your school principal.

San José Unified follows curriculum standards that are set by the California Department of Education. California’s Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are learning goals that state the knowledge and skills that students should acquire at each grade level to be prepared for college and the workforce.

California’s Common Core  State Standards are designed to reflect the knowledge and skills that students need to achieve success in college and the workforce. They were developed through a state-led effort to establish consistent and clear education standards and provide a common set of learning goals to help teachers and parents ensure that students are challenged and making appropriate progress.
