How Waitlists Work
If your student is placed on a waitlist, please note:
To check your student's current waitlist position, email enrollment@sjusd.org or call the Student Assignment Department at 408-535-6232.
Elementary Neighborhood School Waitlist (TK–Grade 5)
Neighborhood school waitlists are for students who live within a school's attendance area when there is no space available in their grade level at the time of enrollment.
Students are placed on the waitlist based on enrollment priorities. Foster youth and students with a sibling currently attending the requested school receive priority.
Elementary Two-Way Bilingual Immersion (TWBI) Waitlist (TK–Grade 5)
After the TWBI lottery, students who are not offered a seat are placed on the waitlist in a random, computer-generated order.
Applications received after the lottery deadline are added to the waitlist:
To maintain a balanced classroom of 50/50 English and Spanish speakers in each class, students may be offered a seat based on their home language.
Students entering 1st grade or higher must be proficient in both English and Spanish. Language assessment may be required before placement.
Elementary Magnet School Waitlist (TK–Grade 5)
After the Magnet School lottery, students who are not offered a seat are placed on the waitlist in a random, computer-generated order.
Applications received after the lottery deadline are added to the waitlist:
Secondary School Waitlist (Grades 6–12)
To be offered a space at another school, students must maintain satisfactory grades, attendance, and behavior.
