Programs
San José Unified recognizes and values that every child is different. We offer a variety of programs to support students to becoming lifelong learners, including:
- Science/environmental elementary magnet school
- Montessori elementary magnet school
- Two-Way Bilingual Immersion (TWBI)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
We do our best to accommodate requests, however, due to the popularity of our programs, we cannot guarantee placement in your program of choice. Some of these programs require families to attend an information session prior to enrollment.
When there are more applications than seats available, a lottery will be held. Students who do not receive an offer of enrollment will be placed on a waitlist. Students who missed the lottery should contact the Enrollment Center at enrollment@sjusd.org to inquire about applying for the waitlist.
Classroom Placement
San José Unified’s classroom placement process is intended to place students in a classroom that is responsive to their learning and needs. This process is completed by school staff, who know the students and the environment in which they will thrive. For schools that have more than one class or period per grade level, multiple data points and perspectives are considered, such as the student’s academic level, behavior, demographic characteristics, and teacher recommendations, to generate balanced classrooms.
