Special Education Process
The assessment process determines whether a child is eligible for special education services and if so, which services are the most appropriate. There are five steps in the special education assessment process.
Services are provided for eligible students beginning at age 3 and continuing until the student's 22nd birthday. San José Unified provides special education assessments for preschool-age children, ages 3-5, who live within the district boundaries and are currently enrolled in San José Unified. The assessment process is in place to help determine a student’s potential eligibility for district-provided special education services.
Families are required to enroll their student(s) in San José Unified prior to being eligible for a preschool assessment. Schedule an appointment or call the Enrollment Center at 408-535-6412.
