When: Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
What: Special information night for students and their caregivers to learn more about transitioning from elementary school (PreK–5th grade) into middle school (6th – 8th grade). Representatives from six San José Middle Schools will showcase their schools and the variety of programs offered.
Where: Hoover Middle School, 1635 Park Avenue San José, CA 95126
Event begins in Media Center followed by breakout sessions. Attendees will have a chance to visit with individual school representatives, learn more about the school and ask questions from staff.
Why: The San José Unified School District includes six middle schools, each with its own personality and programs. Parents and students are encouraged to visit the schools. The transition from elementary to middle school can often be stressful; moving from a highly structured elementary school setting to the less structured middle school environment can seem confusing and cause anxiety. Studies have shown that young adolescents, while vying for independence, often felt concern and apprehension in regards to transitioning to middle school where they are expected to manage time wisely, be organized and change classrooms and teachers daily. Providing a clear understanding of structure and expectations can help ease the transition.
