San José Unified recognized as Family-Friendly Workplace

November 3, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN JOSÉ, CA—For the second consecutive year, San José Unified School District has been recognized as a Family-Friendly Workplace by the County of Santa Clara’s Commission on the Status of Women, Office of Women’s Policy, and Workplace Collaborative. The district received a Gold Level rating, the highest available.

The Family-Friendly Workplace Award recognizes businesses and organizations that have made an outstanding effort to create an environment that supports the needs of working families and displays a commitment to ensure all employees have equal support and every opportunity to succeed and thrive in the workplace.

In order to receive the award, employers must complete an assessment of their family-friendly policies, including pregnancy and lactation accommodation, parental leave, and work-life balance. Gold Level awardees met three different tiers of criteria.

“We are proud of the progress we have made to build a welcoming, accommodating, and supportive workplace at San José Unified,” said Superintendent Nancy Albarrán. “This has been made possible through meaningful collaboration with our employees at all levels.”

San José Unified and other awardees will be honored at a ceremony and reception on Monday, November 13, 2017, from 5:30 to 7:00pm in the Lower Level Conference Room at the County Government Center, 70 West Hedding Street, San José.

Also attending the event will be Kelly Jenkins-Pultz, Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau.
