Record Surge, Focus on Safety, and More Important Information
Most of our employees return to work tomorrow, and students return on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. In preparation, students and employees have been getting tested in record numbers to support the health and safety of our community.
Record Surge of Virus
Given the record positivity rates in our county, state, and nation, we anticipate a record number of COVID-19 positives in San José Unified this week. As a result, we expect increased absences for both students and employees. All available employees will be focused on health, safety, and the continuity of essential services.
Unless you have an immediate emergency, please visit www.sjusd.org for resources and information instead of contacting the school or office. Our employees will only be available for essential services, and responses to non-emergency requests will not be possible. Employee time and efforts will be dedicated to the health and safety of our community so we can keep our schools operating.
Student Positive COVID-19 Test Result
If a student has a positive COVID-19 test result from any source, including an at-home rapid test, please do the following:
- Keep student home for the full week, January 4 to January 7
- Submit the positive test result at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtracker and follow the instructions
- Keep unvaccinated siblings home
We will process the positive cases as quickly as possible while clarifying the isolation requirements with the county and state public health departments for public school students and employees. We will update those with a positive test result on when they may return to school or work as soon as possible.
COVID-19 Symptoms, Exposures, and Other Concerns
If a student has a COVID-19 symptom, has been exposed to COVID-19, or has another COVID related circumstance, please report at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtracker and follow the instructions. Our health and office teams will be unavailable to return calls and emails regarding COVID related circumstances.
We are providing COVID-19 PCR testing to students and employees at no cost from 8:10 am – 4:40 pm, Monday – Friday, at our three testing locations. We will also continue distribution of the at-home rapid test kits to students on Monday, January 3 at our three testing locations. For additional information on the locations, at-home test kits, and COVID-19 resources, please visit go.sjusd.org/COVID19.
We distributed 6,500 test kits today and tested 1,000 students and employees for COVID-19. We appreciate the commitment of our employees, several of whom worked tirelessly over the holidays to support the health and safety of our community as we prepare to return this week. We truly appreciate your continued understanding, support, and patience.
