San José Unified Nights Showcase Community Partnerships
Maintaining a strong connection with community, students, families and staff is part of the San José Unified (SJUSD) way. This strong bond was exemplified on Saturday, November 2, during SJUSD’s first 2019/20 San José Unified Nights event. Hosted by San José State University (SJSU), San José Unified students, staff and community members were invited to attend a San Jose State football game. Attendees arrived early to pick up their complimentary tickets, SJSU giveaway, and participate in the Spartan Village Fan Zone before game time. Students from eight San José Unified elementary schools: Almaden, Gardner, Graystone, Hacienda, River Glen, Simonds, Washington, and Willow Glen, joined in the fun by forming a welcome tunnel as players entered the field. The event provided families and students an opportunity to experience a college event, some for the very first time.
San José Unified’s Special Education staff, as well as participants in the new RISE program, an innovative endeavor that partners with San José State and San José Unified, received special recognition during the half-time show.
More San José Unified nights are planned with the next one scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Once again partnering with San José State, students, staff and the SJUSD community will have a chance to visit the San José State University campus and attend a SJSU women’s basketball game. Details will be announced soon.
