COVID Resources & Information

Our top priority is the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. We have a robust COVID safety protocol to keep our schools as safe as possible.

COVID Safety Protocol

Reporting COVID Positives, Exposures, and Symptoms

If you have a positive test result from any source, including the at-home test kits, please report at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtracker.

If you have been exposed to COVID or have COVID symptoms, please report at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtracker.

Please carefully follow the instructions you receive. After reading the instructions, if you need assistance, please complete a help request, and we will respond as soon as possible. Please note we are experiencing a high volume of inquiries which may result in a delay in responding.

COVID PCR Testing for Students and Staff

We offer PCR testing for all San José Unified students and employees at three locations. Testing is available from 8:10 am – 4:40 pm, on school days, Monday – Friday at the district office, located at 855 Lenzen Avenue, San José, CA 95126.

We do not conduct surveillance testing on students, but we do direct students to be tested anytime they have a COVID symptom or have a known exposure or close contact with a COVID case. Additionally, parents may bring their students for testing anytime. Testing information is included in our COVID notifications.

When we direct a student with symptoms to get a COVID test, the test results must be reported at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtestresults to be cleared to return to school.

To schedule an appointment to test through San José Unified, visit go.sjusd.org/COVIDtest and login as your student, with their student ID and their password.  If you need assistance, please contact your school.

COVID Rapid Antigen Testing

We are providing rapid antigen test kits for students and employees staff who test positive for COVID-19 or are unvaccinated close contacts so they can shorten their isolation period. After completing the COVID tracker, you will receive an email with instructions on when you may take an antigen test. Antigen testing is not required, and students and staff who do not take the antigen test may return after completing their 10 day isolation.

Report antigen test results at go.sjusd.org/COVIDtestresults. You will be cleared to return the following day if the test result is negative.

COVID Vaccines

The COVID vaccine is the leading public health preventative strategy, and we encourage everyone in our community who is eligible to get vaccinated. The vaccine is now approved for ages 5 and up. San José Unified is partnering with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department to offer vaccine clinics at our schools for students, families, and community members. The vaccinations are free, and no appointment is needed. The clinics will offer the first, second, and booster doses for ages 12 and up and the Pfizer pediatric dose for ages 5-11.

You can also schedule appointments for your students and other members of your family through the county by visiting sccfreevax.org, where you can also find a list of drop-in clinics in San José.

COVID Vaccination Requirements for Students

The Governor has directed the California Department of Public Health to follow the procedures to add the COVID-19 vaccine to other vaccinations, like measles, mumps, and rubella, required for in-person school attendance. The vaccination will become required in the semester after the vaccine receives full FDA approval. We do not expect the requirement to go into effect for any grade levels until the 2022-2023 school year. We will provide additional information about the requirement and possible exemptions as the state’s plans are finalized.
